Cancer treatment is so grueling that patients are often told to get as much rest as possible. But new research suggests that that may be the opposite of what they need. Exercising before, during, and after a cancer diagnosis improves the likelihood—and speed—of recovery. But think about that for a second. You’re asking a person who may be in a lot of pain, whose body is exhausted from chemo or radiation to lift weights or go for a run. Kathryn Schmitz, the director of the Oncology, Nutrition, and Exercise group at Penn State University’s Cancer Institute, discusses why this is a good thing for cancer patients. She’s out with a new book called “Moving Through Cancer.” (Segment produced by Lynsey Mella)
