Homelessness increased about 2% in the United States last year, but if you visit a major city on the west coast—like Seattle or San Francisco—you’d think the problem absolutely exploded. What’s making homelessness such a visible problem in some cities? Gregg Colburn studies homelessness and housing at the University of Washington, and he’s got a book coming out next year that looks at this question. It’s called “Homelessness is a Housing Problem.”
