Solar panels could save more than 65-billion gallons of water a year for California while also providing power. But we're not talking about any old solar panels. They would be installed to cover up canals. With the west in a major drought, this solution could provide much-needed relief. University of California Santa Cruz postdoctoral researcher Brandi McKuin and her team did some simulations on how canal solar panels would work in California.
