Ten years ago, the head of the UFC said women would never be permitted in the octagon ring. Now, female matchups have become some of the most popular. What looks like a win for equality on the surface is a lot more complicated when you peel back the layers, says Jennifer McClearen. She’s a professor of media studies at UT Austin and author of a new book called “Fighting Visibility: Sports Media and Athletes in the UFC.”
