Silk Leather

Some people have moral reasons for steering clear of leather, but the leather industry also exacts an environmental toll. That includes carbon emissions and the toxic chemicals involved in the tanning process. Lots of researchers are working on alternatives. At Tufts University, biomedical engineer Fiorenzo Omenetto is making leather-like material out of silk.
