Did you know that different groups of sperm whales have different dialects? Hal Whitehead–a professor of biology at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia–has been studying whale “culture” for decades. Most recently he analyzed the logbooks of whale hunters from the 1800s. He believes he's found evidence the whales learned how to evade harpoons and shared that information with other whales.
