If you grab a handful of dirt from your backyard and throw it under a microscope, you’d find it teeming with life. There is only one place on the entire planet where the soil isn’t like this—it’s a remote location in Antarctica. The soil is completely dead. This place was only recently discovered, and it could help us in the search for life on Mars. Brigham Young University biology professor Byron Adams led the expedition.
