In the last five years, mental health concerns among children have been steadily rising. More and more children are diagnosed each year with some form of mental or behavioral problem. The CDC reports that nearly 4.4 million children ages 3-17 have been diagnosed with anxiety and almost 1.9 million have been diagnosed with depression. However, as daunting as that may seem studies have shown that early intervention is key to helping children learn how to cope and thrive with their unique mental health issues. If caught early, children can learn proper tools for dealing with emotions and feelings that are difficult for them. Here to help us recognize and support children with mental health concerns is child psychologist Dr. Nicole Beurkens.
