Anthropogenic Salt

Salt occurs naturally everywhere, and it's also one of the most useful minerals in our society. It's in our food, construction materials, fertilizers, and we dump tons of it on roads to keep them from icing over in winter. It turns out that all that salt is poisoning the world’s freshwater supplies. University of Maryland professor of Earth System Science Sujay Kaushal says this salt problem is on the verge of a global crisis. (Originally aired April 21st, 2021)
