Fireflies

Biologists worldwide have noted a decline in fireflies, which feels a little like magic is disappearing from the universe, one blink at a time. Fireflies are among the most fantastical insects—if you’ve ever been out in the woods and suddenly seen them blinking on at dusk, you can’t forget that sight. What’s killing them?
