Social isolation has been a major public health concern during the pandemic, especially for older adults. Before COVID-19 spread across the United States, University of Washington social work professor Karen Fredriksen Goldsen discovered that LGBTQ seniors were at a higher risk for isolation, poor health, and mental distress. Now, she is studying how they are handling isolation in the past year. Professor Fredriksen Goldsen is the principal investigator for the largest national study on the wellbeing of LGBTQ seniors.
