Periodically, the sun burps out giant bursts of radiation, and sometimes they hit the earth dead on, where they cause problems with electronics. University of Michigan space physicist Justin Kasper is leading a NASA mission to better understand how solar flares happen–and hopefully give us some advance warning when one is headed our way.
