Every four years international pianists travel to Salt Lake City to compete in The Gina Bachauer International Artist Competition. What follows are two weeks of intense competition. In the first round a contestant performs 30 minutes of repertoire, in the next 40 minutes, then 60 minutes. And the three finalist that make it to the last round give a concerto performance with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake. Meanwhile beyond the standing ovations, curtains calls, and incredible music is the reality of $80,000 in prize money! Obviously a big deal to any regular person and certainly to a young or young-ish musician. Today we’re lucky enough to have EunAe Lee, one of the semi-finalists from the 2014 competition, here with us in the studio. Along with the Joanne Rowland who is the Education Coordinator & Artist Liaison for the Bachauer Foundation. EunAe is a doctoral student at Northwestern University. She recently took 3rd prize at the Hilton Head Piano Competition. She won the Mozart Concerto Competition at The Julliard School where she earned her master’s degree. And is a long-time participant and performing associate of the Bowdoin International Music Festival. Repertoire: WILD Hommage à Poulenc; HAYDN Sonata B-flat Major Hob. XVI:41; AUREBACH Op. 41 Prelude No. 4, Prelude No. 24 Follow Highway 89 on twitter @byuH89
