Anastasia Magamedova

At the height of the Cold War in 1958, something remarkable happened: An American concert pianist won the first ever Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow! That pianist, Van Cliburn, eventually became part of the creation of an illustrious international piano competition here in the United States. Our guest today, Anastasia Magamedova, is about to go and compete as one of 24 talented young musicians from around the world in the Cliburn's first ever Junior International Competition.  Anastasia is the 2013 gold medalist of the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival piano competition, a winner of the 2015 Southwest Regional MTNA Piano Competition, and most recently a finalist in the Yamaha USASU International Piano Competition for Young Pianists. She is a recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke YOung Artist Award and has been featured on NPR's "From the Top" program.
