The pandemic led to a record decline in greenhouse gas emissions globally in 2020, with people doing a lot less driving and flying. On the flip side, the carbon footprint of our internet activity has increased. Renee Obringer is a postdoctoral researcher at the National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center and co-author on some recently published analysis of the pandemic’s effect on our internet carbon footprint.
