For more than 50 years, Classical 89 hoped to broadcast live performances by Utah’s finest musicians on a regular basis. Up until a couple years ago the station lacked the facilities to make such a program possible. But now, with a new broadcasting building to support it, Classical 89 has finally delivered on its dream and that’s what we’re celebrating this hour: 1 year of Highway 89!  Mark Wait, the recording engineer for the show, and Jackie Tateishi, producer, do some behind-the-scenes bean spilling about all that can go right (and wrong) with LIVE performances—starting with our inaugural episode that featured the Utah Premiere Brass.  MUSIC:  The Utah Premiere Brass: Castell Coch – TJ Powell  Forrest Howell: Etude Op. 40, No. 8 – Nikolai Kapustin  Igor and Vesna Gruppman with Jayne Galloway: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes – Jerome Kern arr. Igor Frolov  Livingston Cheney: Julie-O – Mark Summer  The Fry Street Quartet: String Quartet #7 (3rd mvt) – Dmitri Shostakovich  Sishel Claverie and Thomas Klassen: Habenera (L’amour est un oiseau rebelle) – Georges Bizet  Utah Chamber Artists: Domine fili Ungenite – Vivaldi  Randellaires: The Dance of the Pig’s Death – Traditional  University of Utah Clarinet Quartet: Navidad Negra – José Barros Rachel Curtis: Rumba – Carlos Salzedo  Follow Highway 89 on twitter @byuh89
