Daniel Boone

Most depictions of famous frontiersman Daniel Boone lean into caricature and stereotypical depictions of the Native Americans with whom he frequently clashed. The real Daniel Boone was more complicated, of course. He didn’t relish, for example, his reputation for fighting Indians. Bob Drury says taking a closer look at Daniel Boone’s real-life provides a clearer understanding of the tumultuous years that gave birth to America.
