The world’s biggest seed is in danger. A single one can weigh up to 40 lbs and it comes from a palm tree called Coco de Mer. The trees are only found in Seychelles and, partly because of seed poaching, there are only about 8,000 Coco de Mer palms left. So the islanders are rallying together to fight Coco de Mer’s impending extinction. And it’s working. Christopher Kaiser-Bunbury, a senior lecturer in conservation and ecology at the University of Exeter, is a research associate with the Seychelles Island Foundation. He’s helping save the Coco de Mer. (Originally aired May 3rd, 2021)
