Humanitarian Crisis in the Middle East (1:03) Guest: Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne, Chairman of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation The current refugee crisis the largest since World War II and continues to overwhelm European nations. Over the weekend, the Obama Administration announced plans to boost by more than 40-percent the number of refugees it allows in the US each year. The current cap is 70,000. By 2017, that’ll climb to 100,000. But human rights advocates are warning that that’s not enough to effectively address the problem of millions of people who are fleeing poverty and conflict in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries. The Reverend has been part of an effort since the 1990s to reduce crime in urban areas, including inner-city Boston. For eight years in the mid-nineties, it contributed to such a huge drop in youth violence, it’s been dubbed “The Boston Miracle.” Today, the effort has been retooled for new challenges in the nation’s urban centers. “Season of Peace” is what Brown and his colleagues are calling the program.
