Stephen Sondheim's celebrated musical Into the Woods is rich with life lessons about family, relationships, good and bad, and dealing with the consequences of one's actions. It debuted on Broadway in 1987 and features the story of a childless baker and his wife who embark on a quest to break a witch's curse. Along their way they cross paths with characters from the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella and soon all of their stories intertwine. Students from BYU's Music Dance Theater department are preparing a production of Into the Woods and they visit our studio to share some of the fantastic music from the show. This production is directed by Dallyn Vail Bayles, acclaimed Broadway performer, soloist, and recording artist. Dallyn and many of the lead performers chat with Steve Sondheim's style and legacy, and some of the ambiguities and moral questions of the musical.
