Archaeological Gardening

In the UK, gardeners and backyard metal detectors routinely find historic artifacts worth a lot–medieval weapons or gold coins, for example. In fact, last year–when so many people were stuck at home with only their yards to rummage around in–more than 47,000 artifacts turned up. Archaeologist Michael Lewis heads the program in the UK that registers these historic treasures uncovered by amateurs called the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
