There is a growing chorus of people with autism in America demanding to be part of any discussion about what to do about autism. And what many of these self-advocates are likely to say to that question—what do we do about autism?—is well, “nothing.” They don’t want a cure. They don’t want to “combat autism” as the fundraising campaigns often promise. What they want is acceptance and support, says DC-based journalist Eric Garcia.
