People with autism experience disproportionately high rates of depression and suicide, but very little research has been done on why that is. In fact, it took a researcher with autism to finally get a scientific study focused on the stress of living with autism and how that affects mental health. Monique Botha is that scientist–she’s a post-doctoral researcher in psychology at Stirling University in the UK.
