Take a piece of paper, crumple it into a ball, flatten that paper back out, and look at the creases. The pattern seems entirely random, but there are physical and statistical laws at work that make the results of crumpling fairly predictable in some key ways. Harvard applied physics Ph.D. student Jovana Andrejevic used her skills with art and design to find order in the chaos of crumpled paper.
